Instructor: Jane Mathews
Instructor Bio: My interest in art-making began very early. I was supported by my parents. My father taught me how to use tools and painting techniques. My mother taught me how to sew on a sewing machine. I enjoyed trying different art media. My favorite was working with fabric. This eventually led to sewing on paper while I was studying for an MFA at Colorado State University. Traditionally, textiles are mostly covers. Covers offer protection for our living places, our bodies, and our possessions. We also use textiles for adornment, identification and ritual. The word cover became a theme for making paper quilts. Recent quilts relate to personal experiences, how clothing is used and my travels to other countries.
