Hand Quilting is an art and skill that goes back centuries and possibly 1000's of years. American quilters hand stitched everything until the mid 1800's, when sewing machines started to become available. This class will teach you about the history of Hand Quilting - the stitches that hold the 3 layers of fabrics together - AND you will learn the relaxing stitching techniques that create the beautiful textures and visual patterns that adorn the piecing and make a quilt usable, washable, and ready to last for many years. Big Stitch quilting is a variation that will be taught during this class as well.

Modern Basics Quilt Construction
- Aug 30, 2025 09:30 am

Create 6 "blocks" each using skills you learned in the previous blocks, to create a fun sampler style quilt! This class takes you from STEP 1 of quilt making all the way through binding - so you end up with a usable throw-size quilt, as you finish the class. Everything from cutting, stitching, basic machine quilting, tips on use of stripes, selecting from big, medium and small prints to create variety and interest in your blocks. We keep it simple - but help you do each step and give you time to ask plenty of questions as you are working.

Cost: $ 175.00
Embroidery is often seen as an art form in its own right; however, throughout history, it has frequently been combined with other art forms, such as patchwork, to create embellishments. Other enjoyable applications include decorating clothes, jeans, purses, and jackets, or personalizing special gifts. This class is designed to initiate you into a fun project while teaching the basics and helping you discover the joy of doodling with embroidery as you practice and perfect your newly learned stitches.

Cost: $ 75.00
Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) is a great way to gain precision and consistency in intricate blocks. This class focuses on 6" blocks featured in the 1930's Farmer's Wife book - and although it has patterns for both templates and FPP- Rita will focus on the FPP. The book includes stories about the experiences of your fellow wives, from their letters and diaries. Select reproduction fabrics or any other fabrics to add your own style and personality to your quilt created from any combination of the 99 blocks in the book - and work with Rita and your fellow students to learn the tips and tricks that strengthen your piecing.

Cost: $ 135.00
