Alaska The Last Frontier Block 21 - Alaska is known as “America’s Last Frontier” because of its distance from the lower 48 states and its rugged landscape and climate. The word Alaska comes from the Aleutian word “Alyeska,” meaning “The Great Land.” State symbols Moose, Salmon & Forget-Me-Not. Pink flower is Fireweed probably the best known wildflower in Alaska.
