Jan has been quilting for many years, and was drawn to collage when her fabric collection called to her, as an artist, to do something more with it. She has taught Laura Heine-Fiberwork and Emily Taylor-Collage Quilter patterns – as well as her own designs – and loves to see students have success with whatever collage project they are working on. She says she has made all the mistakes and has ways to overcome them – so that is part of the fun of a class – as everyone learns from all the situations encountered.

This 2 day class will allow you to fully complete a smaller (36x36) collage top (not the quilting) – or make really good progress on a larger top. She discusses the details like eyes, color choices, placement of colors to create movement and dimensions, as well as how quilting can enhance your collage. She also discusses different methods used in collage work, and when their use is beneficial.

Join Jan for 2 days that will open up your ability to collage using any pattern – and maybe even create your own!!

You will purchase your own pattern / Kit (if you are purchasing a Kit from Jan – please let the Shop know, so we can notify Jan and she can bring it with her – you will pay Jan on the class day)

SUPPLIES:

Pattern: bring any collage pattern you plan to make – (bring a 2^nd one if the size of your project is small)

Fabrics: follow the fabric guidelines on the specific pattern you intend to make. You can never have too many fabrics to choose from! NOTE from Jan. A KIT is a great way to go for the class, to be sure you have all the fabrics you will need for your top. You still might want a few extras to really make the project your own – but the kit lets you spend your time learning.

Parchment paper: a roll can be purchased from the grocery store – don’t bring just a piece

Regular Steam-a-Seam 2 (SAS2): refer to your pattern for the amount you need –Regular or Lite is fine.

Applique Pressing Sheet

Regular Scissors – for cutting paper

Applique scissors: for cutting the fabric motifs/fabric backed by SAS2  - Karen Buckley scissors with the serrated edges are perfect!

Small cutting mat & rotary cutter

Ruler to cut lengths indicated in your pattern

Permanent Black Sharpie pen

No sewing machine unless you plan to piece you background

CANCELLATION POLICY:

• Cancellation more than 2 weeks in advance - full refund. 
• Less than 2 weeks prior to class $25 cancellation charge.
• Less than 48 hours - no refund unless we can fill the seat, refund of class fee minus the $25 cancellation fee.
• No refunds to No shows.
