Meet Barb Warden, a dedicated storyteller who has spent 29 years warmly connecting with the Golden community. As the friendly owner and operator of GOLDEN TODAY.com since 2007, Barb is a cherished source of information, sharing daily events and keeping everyone up to date on city happenings.
Barb’s journey in Golden began long before the website. After two decades of making Golden her home, she saw a need for a welcoming place where neighbors could easily find out what’s going on around town. This inspired her to launch a free online daily newsletter, inviting fellow residents to stay informed and engaged.
Originally from Illinois, Barb and her family arrived in Golden in 1987. Driven by curiosity and a love of history, she made her first stop at the Golden Pioneer Museum to get to know her new community. Her passion for local heritage soon led her to present the history of Golden in photos for the city’s 150th anniversary and to teach a course on Golden’s history at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Denver, making history accessible and enjoyable for all.
Barb also enjoys sharing Golden’s stories through her writing. She is the proud author of three books—“A Guidebook to Golden, Colorado,” “Olde Golden Christmas,” and “Funiculars of Golden, Colorado”—and is working on two more to welcome even more readers into Golden’s past: “A Brief History of Golden, Colorado” and “Railroads of Golden, Colorado.”
Barb’s welcoming spirit extends to her community work. She has been an active member of the Leadership Golden Steering Committee and Board of Directors, served as President in 2009, and contributes to the Astor House Alliance and Keep Golden Golden. In recognition of her warmth, dedication, and service, Barb has been named a Living Landmark by the Golden Landmarks Association and received the Chamber of Commerce’s Civic Award for her website. Her generous commitment truly embodies the welcoming heart of Golden.
