Fiery Discourse by Mary Kay Fosnacht

20 Perspectives Panel

Join us for a special Sunday at the Museum and meet four of the artists whose work is currently exhibited in the Northeast Gallery. Cindy Brendzel, Mary Kay Fosnacht, Kathie R. Kerler, and Susan Callahan will share the ideas, techniques, materials, and experiences that shape their work.

These four artists offer wonderfully different approaches to textile and fiber art. Cindy Brendzel creates portraits and landscapes inspired by people, places, and everyday experiences. Her Imaginary Friends series even led her to invent backstories for her subjects as she worked, inviting viewers to see familiar things in unexpected ways.

For Mary Kay Fosnacht, a background in music provides the foundation for her fiber art. Rhythm, movement, and harmony find new expression through color and texture in work that has been exhibited throughout the United States, Europe, and Australia.

Kathie R. Kerler uses hand and machine embroidery and quilting to build richly textured work. Rather than simply recreating a scene, she often works representationally, using fiber and stitch to evoke a feeling or response. Her extensive textile studies have taken her from the City & Guilds program in London to the Lesage School of Needlework in Paris.

Susan Callahan, a textile artist for more than 25 years, focuses on surface design and raw-edge appliqué. Her work often brings repurposed materials together with new hand-printed or hand-dyed fabrics, creating unexpected combinations of color, texture, and material.

During this one-hour artist talk and panel discussion, you’ll hear directly from the artists about their creative processes and the stories behind their work—and then have the opportunity to view the exhibition with a new understanding of what went into making it.

PRE-REGISTRATION is required to save a seat for you.
ALL attendees will be charged $15 for this program.
