David Taylor's Photo to Pictorial Applique - 5 day RETREAT WORKSHOP

A 5 day Experience of the creative process that David uses to develop his masterpieces. Starting with a photo David approves prior to the class, you will discover every step of the process of moving from a photo, to your own unique interpretation of your subject. Although you will not complete your project during this retreat workshop, you will have a solid start and have the information you need to continue on.
David's goal for this 5 day experience is to demonstrate a different way to create appliqué patterns and a different way to look at fabric prints. David says, "I can tell you for certain that once your subject matter starts to come alive before your very eyes, you'll be hooked and you won't want to stop working on it. What seemed impossible on Day One will open up every possibility by Day Three. Do you have to applique by hand? No. However, it is my preferred method of assembly and I will give a demonstration of my stitching on Day Four. I've had students fuse, glue, machine stitch, satin stitch and piece together by hand. That's your choice. Actual assembly of your project will probably not happen until well after the workshop ends. Most of our time together will be occupied with selecting and cutting fabric."
Some preparation is needed prior to the class, to get the most out of it - so make your plans now and start the process.
The creative process requires inspiration and separation from the daily tasks of life- and Golden, Colorado has plenty of that! Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum galleries are a great starting place, but the mountains and red rocks out our front door, as well as the sites of Golden's Clear Creek, Historic downtown, and numerous trails are all respites to help. This class will have a limited number of students, to allow ample work space for each in our new classroom space. Nearby hotels within 10 minute drive, offer the convenience needed - yet give you time to enjoy your evenings and mornings. Lunch and snacks will be provided on class days.
