AQSG, Quilt Studies and the Color Blue in the 19th Century
Have you ever wondered what it means to STUDY QUILTS? How much can there be to know? If you aren’t a quilter – what could you possibly learn from a quilt? It is a blanket after all.

One of RMQM’s exhibits 19th Century Blues: It's More than Indigo, is the result of some folks doing deep dives into quilts incorporating blue and made during the 1800’s. Some investigation, detective work, and research that included some travel – provided information and details that inspired over 50 ladies to appreciate some quilts and their makers’ stories to the point that they wanted to honor the quilts by making new quilts inspired by the originals. The exhibit includes 25 quilts chosen to travel the country and help the viewer relate to the original quilts.

Carol has participated in multiple Quilt Studies and will help us understand the American Quilt Study Group’s mission, programs, and publications, and why Quilt Studies are so exciting to so many. She will bring to life how the experience of making reproductions inspired by antique quilts helps gain a better understanding of the lives of the original makers and their life experiences, as well as opening up the historical happenings of the time when the originals were created. Carol will also show both her study quilt for the 2016 Quilt Study on 19th Century Basket Quilts, as well as the inspiration quilt from RMQM's permanent collection.
