QUILTING & FINISHING your Improv Landscape with Diana Fox Nov 8, 9:30-3:30pm

Your improv landscape needs the finishing touches - FMQ that creates and enhances the textures and movements you want to draw out. And an edge that matches the Art Quilt vibe.  Let Diana guide you through these important steps of your Improv Landscape design and completion. From thread choices, tools to use and techniques.  And with Diana you know it will be fun and explorational.

Full day class - so bring a bag lunch!

Never tried FMQ? This is the perfect opportunity! Your landscape provides a great chance to enjoy creating free motion curves, squiggles, and other patterns of your choice to create texture and flow in your piece.

Participants need to bring:

A sewing machine in good working order (cleaned and oiled) plus the owner's manual. A FREE MOTION QUILTING FOOT IS A MUST FOR THIS CLASS, and one typically comes with most newer machines. Please reach out in advance if you have questions on this foot. If you have a machine that is a “class only” machine, please ensure that it is ready to sew and that you can drop the feed dogs.

FEET needed for your machine:

Walking foot

Zig-zag

Straight stitch

Free-Motion

Basic sewing tools and supplies;

  • new sewing machine needles.  I like size 80 Schmetz topstitch or quilting needles.
  • straight pins
  • curved basting safety pins****
  • bobbins
  • rotary cutter, ruler, and a medium to large-size cutting mat
  • Machingers or similar grippy gloves.  If you don’t have these, you can use rubber gloves, although they may make your hands perspire.  Some prefer not to wear gloves, which is also an option.
  • fabric scissors and small thread-cutting scissors
  • Thread.  I like Aurifil, Mettler, Prescencia, Gutermann, and 40 and 50 weights are my preference for quilting.
  • chalk pencil
  • bring any other tools that you typically use, as this list may not encompass things that you may commonly use in your practice
  • A DOODLE pad to draw on
  • Note-taking materials
  • Tweezers
  • Seam ripper
  • Batting twice the size of the top you are bringing - and BACKING FABRIC

Bring the quilt top prepared in the August class OR a panel you wish to practice on.
