Quilt Index Project

The Quilt Index is a growing research and reference tool designed to provide unprecedented access to information and images about quilts held in private and public hands.

The Quilt Index initially included quilts inventoried by four state documentation projects. The Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum is privileged to be part of the second phase of the Quilt Index, as it expands to include museum and library quilt collections. By the end of 2007, images of quilts from the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum’s collection will be available for viewing online, along with detailed information about each quilt. All of this will be in a searchable format, easily accessible to researchers as well as casual browsers.

The Quilt Index was conceived and developed by The Alliance for American Quilts in partnership with Michigan State University's MATRIX: Center for Humane Arts, Letters and Social Sciences Online and the Michigan State University Museum. The project has been supported in part by major grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Institute for Museum and Library Services.
